Raspberry producing regions are widely distributed across the globe, with major growing areas featuring complementary harvest seasons and core processed product portfolios.

Europe’s key producing countries include Poland, Serbia and Ukraine, with harvests running from late June to late October. Their primary products are frozen berries, concentrated juice and raspberry puree, making this region the world’s core supplier of frozen raspberries. In North America, Washington State of the United States stands out, with harvesting from June to September focusing on frozen fruit and concentrated juice. Chile’s Central Valley in South America has a production window from December to April of the following year, specializing in frozen berries with a small volume of puree as a secondary product. China’s domestic core producing areas are in Northeast China, where harvest takes place from early July to late October, yielding mainly frozen berries, puree and limited concentrated juice. Staggered harvests across multiple regions sustain year-round global raspberry supply.【1】

The year 2023 marked a watershed for the global raspberry industry. Prior to this, global raspberry output had maintained steady annual growth of 5% to 7%. However, frequent extreme weather events over the past three years have severely damaged all core producing zones, completely reshaping the industry’s supply-demand balance. In 2023, frost hit Chile and drought struck North America, driving the first decline in global raspberry production. Disasters intensified in 2024: severe frost triggered massive output cuts in Poland and Serbia, while Chile suffered an unprecedented drought, creating an acute shortage of processing-grade berries. In 2025, European growing areas were severely affected by frost disastersand heatwaves. Raspberry output in Poland and Serbia dropped by more than 60%, while Ukraine saw a slight production decline.【2】And persistent drought in South America hindered production recovery. Severe rainstorms in Mexico have seriously impaired the quality of fresh fruits.Three consecutive years of reduced yields have nearly depleted global raspberry inventories.【3】

While output in Northeast China has seen modest steady growth, most premium whole berries are exported to North America, with lower-grade fruit and berry fragments shipped to Russia, further tightening global supply. Domestic prices for deep-processed raspberry products surged by over 40% year-on-year.

Heading into 2026, supply pressure on the global raspberry market has intensified, with a concentration of adverse industry factors. Europe, the world’s largest producing region, has suffered another devastating blow. Raspberry blossoms in Poland were hit by extreme frost, with ground temperatures dropping to -8°C to -10°C【4】. Overall production is projected to fall by 40%–50%, and certain local growing areas face output losses of 80%–90%. Additionally, Morocco’s output dropped 30%–40% due to storms, floods and labor shortages; U.S. farms endured flood damage; and Italy scaled back cultivation amid workforce shortages. The confluence of these issues continues to widen the global supply gap. The market is currently in a transition period between the old and new harvest seasons, resulting in an especially acute shortage of raw materials.【5】

Domestically, China’s raspberry industry is undergoing steady expansion with growth emerging across multiple regions, and overall supply capacity keeps rising. Large-scale planting belts have taken shape in Northeast, North and Southwest China. Cultivation zones keep expanding outward from traditional core producing areas, with planting areas growing year after year. Protected cultivation and standardized farming techniques are gaining widespread adoption, the coverage of improved varieties keeps rising, and industrial modernization advances steadily. Driven by policy support and market demand, more new and expanded planting bases have been built nationwide. Deeper industry-university-research collaboration has also promoted the rollout of self-bred varieties, diversified farming models and steady growth in overall production capacity.
In terms of supply structure, China’s raspberries serve both fresh fruit circulation and deep-processing raw material demand, with partial volumes exported overseas, which can partially offset supply shortfalls in the international market. Nevertheless, uneven regional development persists within the domestic sector; emerging producing zones remain in the incubation phase and cannot rapidly ramp up output in the short term. Overall, China’s self-sufficiency in raspberries continues to improve, effectively mitigating risks stemming from fluctuations in the global market. Even so, domestic product prices will remain elevated in line with international market trends amid the tight global supply-demand landscape.【6-7】

Domestic primary processing of raspberries mainly adopts IQF (Individual Quick Frozen) technology. After sorting, cleaning, quick-freezing and packaging, the fruits are stored below -18℃ to fully retain their color, flavor and anthocyanins, serving as the core raw material for export and deep processing. A small amount of fresh raspberries are pre-cooled and supplied to high-end supermarkets and picking gardens via cold chains. Further deep processing yields raspberry puree, jam, wine, vinegar, freeze-dried granules and powder. Extracts including anthocyanins, ellagic acid and raspberry ketone are widely used in bakery, catering, beverages, health supplements, natural pigments and antioxidant skincare products.【7】
